New US Travel Restrictions Countries

A draft version of new travel restrictions has been reported by The New York Times, categorizing 43 countries into three tiers of increasing severity.







When do Travel Restrictions go into effect?

The restrictions are expected to be finalized around March 21 2025, according to the report.



The draft plan establishes a three-tiered system: 


Red Countries

These countries face a complete travel ban

  • Afghanistan

  • Bhutan

  • Cuba

  • Iran

  • Libya

  • North Korea

  • Somalia

  • Sudan

  • Syria

  • Venezuela

  • Yemen


Orange Countries

Countries with severely restricted access

  • Belarus

  • Eritrea

  • Haiti

  • Laos

  • Myanmar

  • Pakistan

  • Russia

  • Sierra Leone

  • South Sudan

  • Turkmenistan


Yellow Countries

These countries are given 60 days to address concerns before potentially facing stricter measures

  • Angola

  • Antigua and Barbuda

  • Benin

  • Burkina Faso

  • Cambodia

  • Cameroon

  • Cape Verde

  • Chad

  • Republic of Congo

  • Democratic Republic of Congo

  • Dominica

  • Equatorial Guinea

  • Gambia

  • Liberia

  • Malawi

  • Mali

  • Mauritania

  • St. Kitts and Nevis

  • St. Lucia

  • São Tomé and Príncipe

  • Vanuatu

  • Zimbabwe




Recommendation

Immigration attorneys recommend that nationals from affected countries currently outside the U.S. consider returning before the restrictions take effect, as implementation may be chaotic with inconsistent application by airlines and increased scrutiny at ports of entry.
